Our story

Robert Givens

Co-Founder (a.k.a. the Strategist)

I work at the intersection of culture, strategy, and leadership. For over a decade, I’ve been inside mission-driven organizations, watching how good intentions break down under pressure—and how often strategy is asked to carry weight that actually belongs to culture.

In my mid-twenties, I had a moment that quietly changed the way I see people. At a networking event, I caught myself treating conversations as transactions—scanning for influence, credentials, usefulness. When I dismissed a woman because her title didn’t meet that threshold, the look on her face stopped me cold. It revealed something I hadn’t wanted to admit: years of surviving unhealthy systems had begun to erode my humanity.

That moment became a turning point. I began to see how the quiet compromises we make to endure broken cultures slowly shape who we become. Reclaiming my own humanity meant relearning how to see the person in front of me—regardless of role or status—and refusing to confuse worth with utility ever again.

Today, I write stories, build frameworks, and facilitate workshops that help people and organizations slow down, tell the truth, and rebuild from identity rather than urgency. I believe leadership begins with choosing what kind of people we are becoming.

Alexis Givens

Co-Founder (a.k.a. the Designer)

I came to this work through nursing.

For more than six years, I worked as a registered nurse in a hospital system that was becoming increasingly driven by data, compliance, and performance metrics. I saw what happens when strategy and efficiency are prioritized over the dignity of people—especially non-physician staff and the patients they are called to serve.

In that environment, it was easy for humans to become reduced to numbers or pawns. But I also experienced something else: the power of microculture. My unit, led by a manager who consistently fought for her people and her patients, became a place of trust, care, and mutual respect. That local culture didn’t fix the larger system—but it made the work humane and meaningful. It showed me how much leaders and the cultures they shape actually matter.

Those years formed my conviction that culture is never abstract. It lives in everyday decisions, relational safety, and whether people feel seen when the stakes are high. Even in broken systems, a leader who genuinely cares can change everything.

In this work, I help bring ideas to life. Where frameworks risk becoming impersonal, I pay attention to the human experience—creating spaces where people feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to grow.
